Pause, Breathe, Relax: How to Design a Truly Luxurious Bathroom

Melissa reveals her secret to creating quiet luxury using the stunning depth of Onyx-effect tiles.

In this month’s mood board Melissa wants to focus on the trending, overlooked stone effect – Onyx. Onyx in its true form is a delicate, sensual and an encapsulating stone. Subtle veining sweeps through the stone and opens to gemstone centres. This however comes with a slightly higher price tag, and needs a far softer hand for fitting, so in steps Ca Pietra providing a stunning representation in a porcelain tile, and in Melissa’s case her choice – Hollywood Blue.

Melissa has chosen to showcase the tile drenched in the bathroom from the wall running down into the floor, highlighting that an impactful look doesn’t have to be overpowering. The beautiful moody blue tones, flecks of white, and deep havens of brown are all noted in the complimenting products in the room. Melissa has formatted the 1200x600mm Hollywood tile horizontally and in line rather than offset to create the illusion of a larger and seamless space.

The Calypso Charlbury 1200mm Lagoon Mist vanity seamlessly blends with the surrounding Villeroy & Bochs Marble Arch tile while providing a grounded focal point. The wooden slat shelf underneath melts into the wall again creating a continuous flow between all aspects in the room. Its matte finish contrasts subtly with the glossy tile surfaces, offering visual balance. Topped with a clean marble white countertop and minimalist white Hansgrohe brassware, it brings a contemporary edge to the otherwise deeply atmospheric space.

The round white Trim mirror from HIB – simple, modern, and well-placed—reflects the intricate patterns within the tiles, amplifying light and adding dimension. Its thin frame maintains the bathroom’s minimalist sophistication while allowing the materials around it to shine.

When it comes to crafting a truly quiet luxurious bathroom, few materials offer the depth, drama, and visual intrigue of onyx-effect tiles. In feng shui, onyx is a protective stone that brings strength, stability, and balance to a space by helping to deflect negative energy, so if this is what your bathroom is craving come along and speak our team in the showroom on Clepington Road, and heed Melissa’s advice to pause….breathe…..and relax!
